What's this? "Joe the Plumber's" government records have been accessed more than originally acknowledged?

It is well documented that a number of people, including Senator John McCain, were warning us that our financial services industry was playing fast and loose with mortgage-backed securities. Maybe the most precient prediction came from a man named Roubini. When you read the prediction he made two years ago it is uncanny in its accuracy. Here it is.

Is President George W. Bush the worst President in American history as Democrats claim? Not even close. He's not even the worst President in the last 30 years. That distinction goes to Jimmy Carter. Time has a way of blurring memories so let me offer a history refresher. In 1979-1980, interest rates, unemployment, and inflation were all in double-digits -- that was the Carter Administration. Do you remember the gas lines? Do you remember Americans being held hostage in Iran? No, President George W. Bush is nowhere near as bad as Jimmy Carter. Carter, in fact, is the person who gave us the Reagan revolution in the 1980s. Fortunately for "W," history will judge him from a historical perspective instead of the hysterical perspective used against him today.

The State of Minnesota continues to pass its budget problems down to the counties. What's the problem with that? Here's an analysis of the problem from the County Commissioners in Mower County (Rochester).

We're about a week and a half away from the General Election. So, where do we Republicans stand in this election? If you give credence to national polls there's something for everyone. Some polls have the Democrats up big (double digits in some cases), other polls have the Presidential race essentially tied. How can that be? Here's the reason. It all depends on the methodology of the polls and the definitions they use to identify "likely voters." Likely voters are those who answer the phone, and those who are at home instead of working at a job. In other words, the polls are skewed in favor of the Democrats.

The bottom line is only one poll counts, and that's the one conducted November 4, 2008. Barack Obama and his campaign are already planning an extravagant victory party the evening of November 4th. The New England Patriots were planning a similar celebration following the Super Bowl earlier this year. Unfortunately for the Patriots, the New York Giants didn't believe the hype and they went ahead and played the game anyway. It turned out the Giants not only showed up, they beat the invincible Patriots. They didn't just edge the Patriots, they beat them.

The polls have been wrong all year. A year ago all of the talking heads on TV had decided that this year's election would be between Rudy Giuliani and Hillary Clinton. They were wrong then, and they are wrong now. Sara Palin is addressing large, enthusiastic crowds wherever she appears. There is genuine anger at how she has been treated by the national media. I'm convinced much of that anger is going to be registered at the one poll that counts.

The Star Tribune's Editorial in the Oct. 19 issue calls for a "No" vote on the Clean Water, Land, and Legacy Amendment. Are my eyes deceiving me?

Barack Obama hasn't been elected President and he's vowing to "Change the World." Many of us would like him to define how he's going to change our country before he changes our planet.

How staggering is our national debt? Would you believe the counter used to tabulate the national debt has run out of digits?

The results from the second Presidential Debate: No fireworks and more giveaways.

We want to extend a sincere thank you to the New York Times. The country's "Newspaper of Record" has finally gotten around to exploring Barack Obama's past associations with people who bombed federal buildings, and did so proudly. Alaska Governor Sarah Palin made note of the NYT's discoveries during a speech yesterday.

    (10/3/08)
The one and only Vice Presidential Debate was held in St. Louis tonight. The winner: It was a draw. Neither Senator Joe Biden or Alaska Governor Sarah Palin scored a knockout or made a mistake that will be repeated endlessly on the news channels.

You better hide your wallets. Congressional leaders are looking for votes to pass the now $850 Billion bailout bill and they're promising whatever it takes to get those votes.

    (10/1/08)
The ridiculous campaign against Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin isn't being conducted by just the national media. Our local media also wants to take its shots. It's a shame that Govenor Palin is subjected to such disrespect.
